As the regular supplier of Stewards and Security staff to the LONDON AQUATICS CENTRE since the completion of the 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS we were put on notice as soon as the event was programmed in to the Centre’s busy schedule.

This was going to be a 21 day event with in the region of 20,000 competitors and 40,000 spectators from all around Europe, the greater majority of them having never been to the Centre before and a large proportion being non English speaking.

A major part of our responsibility was to control the movement in, out and around the Centre in sequence with the time of the event that they were participating in, or specifically wanting to watch. We knew this would bring a multitude of challenges as we had to comply with capacity restrictions which were finely calculated in order to allow competitors and spectators to flow in and out in time for the specific events to operate on schedule without any competitors missing their slot or spectators missing an event that they may have travelled from the other side of Europe to see.

Apart of our pre event planning was to establish staff with multi lingual capabilities and to organise their deployment in such a way to maximise the benefits that they brought. This proved to be very useful in helping a number of visitors to the event.

An added feature to the Security of the event was a late concern of demonstrators encroaching the poolside. To counter this a special team of water confident WSSL security staff were covertly deployed in strategic positions and were ready to act as necessary in order to prevent any disruption to activities.

With the number of staff involved and the shift times varying it meant that on many days we delivered 4 or 5 full Safety Briefing sessions. A dedicated member of the WSSL team took responsibility for the planning of the up to date briefing notes and the assembly of staff prior to their work commencement. We were very confident that all staff had the most up to date awareness of event requirements and Safety procedures prior to the start of each shift.

We also needed to consider the welfare of our staff as a number of the pool area positions subjected staff to warm/humid working conditions. A rotation of deployment overcame this situation and enabled staff to enjoy comfortable working conditions. Further, full consideration was given to the long hours each day that the venue would be operating and a shift system along with a full refreshment and rest marque for staff was provided. Over the course of the 21 event days we utilised in excess of 100 staff who manned over 1000 shifts and achieved in the region of 10,000 man hours of work.

The event was a HUGE SUCCESS and the CEO of LEN, Tom Chambers said ” I am very satisfied with all that the WSSL team have done” and then said to James Wise “Your guys did really well, it couldn’t have been better”

Wise Security Services have vast experience, knowledge and expertise of security and safety that can help in all kinds of situations – including bespoke security plans.

Whether large-scale events and stadiums, smaller venues and places of work, or individual security of people, property and homes, we have provided support and planning in a variety of situations.

Recently, our managing director was approached by a high-profile, household name who had experienced a few concerning situations. He requested immediate security cover for his residence.

Wise Security Services deployed a highly-experienced close protection officer to attend within hours.

Later that same day our MD also visited the property to discuss a bespoke security plan to suit the client’s needs. A 24-hour shift cover was established for the residence and additional staff were made available for principle escort and family members escort duties.

The personnel deployed by the company were hand-selected based on their credentials, ability and, most importantly, their suitability to blend in with the lifestyle of the principle and his family.

During the time the company provided security cover they gave advice on home security measures and arranged for the upgrading of the CCTV system that was in place. Wise Security Services moved in quickly to protect, advise and implement plans to reduce any future threat.

Once accomplished, we organised a safe, structured withdrawal of staff. A short while after this operation the client recommended the company to another VIP who was looking for security advice.

It is as important that we ensure the smaller bespoke security requirements are looked after with the same level of planning and professionalism as the larger staffing needs.

In 1997 the British Olympic Association began preparing their bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) was established to oversee the ongoing development of The Games.

Virtually every stewarding and security company in the country looked for ways of being considered by LOCOG to become an official supplier.

Many companies did not meet the initial criteria for consideration and from all of the stewarding and security supply companies operating in the UK a short list of ten companies was formed.

Wise Security Services are proud to be able to say that we were one of the ten.

The companies on this shortlist were then invited to the LOCOG offices in Docklands to give a presentation and to participate in a Q&A session with the committee of ten senior members of LOCOG.

Five of the companies were immediately eliminated from the process and a week later we were invited to a meeting and advised that we would be the first company to be awarded an official contract to provide staff in keeping with the recent selection process.

A number of meetings followed and we were given the opportunity of determining the number of personnel we would supply and the best suited venues for them to be involved with.

It was soon agreed that Wise Security Services would supply staff to; Lords Cricket Ground, Royal Artillery Barracks, Horse Guards Parade and Wembley Stadium. The number of staff we provided to the Olympic Games exceeded 600 operatives.

During the months leading up to the Games, we were asked to take responsibility for several other venues and participate in others, including the Olympic Stadium, Stratford.

Due consideration was given to the request and although the door was wide open for us to considerably increase the revenue of the event a decision was taken to reject the offer as quality of service rather than quantity was the main objective of the company.

The Games proved an interesting, exciting and in some cases a challenging involvement for the many staff that we provided.

The management and infrastructure of Wise Security Services was tested to the highest level day after day between 27 July and 12 August, when the venues where Wise were operating were active. Nonetheless, the spirit of the field staff and senior team never faltered and the pride of being a part of this memorable event was apparent at all times.

Wise Security Services was widely praised for the high level of service and commitment displayed throughout the duration of the Games from Senior LOCOG representatives.

This was backed up by a personal letter from Lord Sebastian Coe outlining his gratitude for the support and dedication which Wise Security provided, and for the vital role we played in making the Games a success.https://www.teamgb.com/

In 2014 Wise Security Services won the tender to work with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide security and safety staffing to the Tall Ships Regatta

Following a recommendation from an existing client in early 2014, Wise Security Services was given the chance to pitch to support an event being overseen by the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG).

The event was very successful and so began a great working relationship with the senior management team of RBG.

We were able to supply the anticipated 400–500 staff, as well as an experienced management infrastructure to oversee the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta which was spread over the 50 acres of riverside where safety and security support was required.

By doing this, we were put onto a shortlist to be further considered by RBG. The successful company would have to meet exacting and demanding criteria and a short while later it was announced that Wise Security Services had been awarded the entire contract for all sites including build up, breakdown and the event’s overnight manned guarding requirements.

Following this announcement, we attended regular Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meetings and became a valid contributor to the final stewarding and security plan put into place by RBG.

A number of site visits with senior management of the company followed to identify locations and responsibilities for the main control room staff, the site managers, the site control management teams, the senior supervisors, the section supervisors and all of the traffic management marshals, safety stewards and security staff.

During the latter part of August 2014, we began assigning manned guarding staff to protect the equipment and structures spread over the many acres of site space in readiness for the 50 craft scheduled to arrive for the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta on Saturday 6 September.

It was anticipated that in the region of one million visitors, crew and staff would attend over the four-day event, which ran between 6 and 9 September.

As one would expect on an event stretched over such a vast area with the number of visitors that attended, there were challenges the Wise team had to overcome.

The vast knowledge and experience of our water and waterside safety manager proved invaluable and enabled us to ensure all staff received specialist training and the ‘on-water’ incidents were dealt with quickly and efficiently.

This event concluded with no major incidents or safety issues reported and the many hundreds of thousands of visitors who attended the various sites enjoyed a water spectacle the likes of which had not been witnessed for a quarter of a century.

The event finished each evening with a firework spectacular viewed by thousands from many vantage points around Greenwich and the surrounding locations. One of the highlights of the four days was the march by hundreds of crew members from Greenwich Park along the two-mile route to the Naval college.

The hugely successful involvement of Wise Security Services lead to us providing the staffing and management for the Tall Ships event in 2015 and also agree a long-term contract that will see Wise working on these events with the Royal Borough of Greenwich for some years to come.

In 2008 the International Rugby Board invited member unions to express an interest in hosting the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cup tournaments.

A record ten unions came forward and applied to host either competitions; Australia, England, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Russia, Scotland, South Africa and Wales.

The bids were reduced to shortlist of four who would submit a final bid for the 2015 tournament; England, Japan, South Africa and Wales.

In July 2009, England was announced as tournament hosts for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and confirmed that 12 venues around the country, plus one in Wales, would be used. They were;

Birmingham: Villa Park

Brighton: Brighton Community Stadium

Cardiff: Millennium Stadium

Exeter: Sandy Park

Gloucester: Kingsholme Stadium

Leeds: Elland Road

Leicester: Leicester City Stadium

London: Olympic Stadium

London: Twickenham RFU

London: Wembley Stadium

Manchester: Manchester City Stadium

Milton Keynes: Stadium MK

Newcastle: St James’ Park

At four of these venues, in bold, Wise Security Services were the incumbent stewarding and security supplier, so talks soon began between Wise and the venues where we would be operating.

The involvement with these four venues meant that we were by far the largest suppliers of stewards and security personnel to the 2015 tournament. A considerable level of responsibility was place on us to deliver the quality of service that the host union expected.

The quality of service provided by Wise Security Services lead to the organisers asking them to take on the responsibilities at a fifth venue.

This now meant that we were supplying to every venue within the geographical area of routine operation and were covering all London area venues, as well as Brighton.

It led to talks with Chris Allison, the head of tournament security. Chris was former assistant commissioner of police and was the national Olympic security coordinator for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The senior management of Wise Security Services have worked with Chris Allison on many occasions in the past and he expressed his comfort at knowing the level of involvement the we had.

During the 2015 Rugby World Cup we provided stewarding and security personnel to Brighton Community Stadium, London Olympic Stadium, London Twickenham RFG, London Wembley Stadium, Milton Keynes MK.

Over the 44 days of the tournament, which took place between 18 September and 31 October, Wise Security Services provided a 100 per cent attendance record and utilised 680 safety stewards and security personnel, as well as venue managers and supervisory staff.

We were also awarded the contract for the provision of all 24-hour security staffing requirements at Wembley Stadium and subsequently supplied a two-shift system utilising 12 manned guarding personnel and a shift manager.

The event passed without any major incidents and we received high acclaim from each of the venues where we operated.
