The Boat Race Returns To The Thames
Date Posted | 07/04/2022
Sunday 3rd April 2022 saw the return of the The Boat Race to it’s historic home on the River Thames.
The Boat Race first used it’s “Championship Course” in 1845, 177 years ago! The race then was held on consecutive years on the Thames from 1864 to 2019, a 155 year stretch of competition. Following the COVID 19 Pandemic, the race was held on the Great River Ouse in 2021, which Wise Security primarily provided the Security and Marshalling for.
Now, as we begin to exit the pandemic, the Race drew in thousands from around the Capital to finally see the return of the historic Boat Race, as Oxford and Cambridge faced off once again on the Thames after a 3 year absence.
Wise Security, along with various other service partners, came together in the prevailing months to prepare effectively to secure the event. Events of this magnitude do not succeed without proper preparation, of which we were proud of the time and experience we were able to provide to The Boat Race.
On the ground, our team of Security Personnel, Safety Stewards and Event Supervisors helped to oversee the safety at the below sites:
- Putney Embankment
- Bishop’s Park Fan Park
- Furnival Gardens Fan Park
- Barnes Foreshore
- Thames Bank
- Mortlake Finish Area
All of the sites overseen posed a unique challenge for our team, of which all were handled and hurdled successfully. Effective Documentation and Bespoke Briefings helped to deliver this knowledge to our teams on the ground.
After a successful 2022, we are looking forward to another great race on the Thames next year!
