Wise Oversee Successful 2023 Boat Race
Date Posted | 15/04/2023
Once again, Wise Security provided sole Stewarding and Security provision for the historic Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge University.
With the previous year’s event being held shortly after the COVID Pandemic, this was the first Boat Race held with a full year’s preparation from ourselves and the amazing Boat Race Company who put together the plans to ensure everything goes plain sailing (or rowing perhaps!)
Wise Security has first-hand involvement in all of the following aspects with regards to The Boat Race:
- Crowd Management
- Asset Protection
- Access Control
- Hostile Reconnaissance
- Customer Service
These services are provided over the entire stretch of the course along the River Thames, starting from the Putney Embankment, Bishop’s Park, Furnival Gardens, Barnes, Thames Bank and the Mortlake Boat Club which hosts the finish area.
Our Operations Manager, Daniel Frost, oversaw the event working from the Event Control Room, he had this to say about the day, “The Boat Race poses a unique challenge each year, an event with challenges on land, on the river and even in the air with drones! The preparation put into this event always pays dividends on the day, especially watching the team on CCTV and on the BBC live feed, all carrying their duties as briefed. We always look forward to working with The Boat Race Company and can’t wait for 2024 to row around!”
Thanks to our experienced Supervisory team, and with efficient planning and site visits, the day went all to plan, baring some of our team being stranded in the control room when the tide came in!
Note to our team, wellies are a must for 2024!
